August, 2018

We are very fortunate to have been given a grant for $1000.00 from the Steele County Job Development Authority. We will be using it for more shelving and, of course, large print books. Many of our patrons prefer large print so those are the majority of the books we purchase. Thank you to the JDA.

A reminder to you all that there’s a rack of paperback books in Bremer’s Market for you to take for a small donation. Those books have been purged from the library because they are duplicates. If you should happen to grab a book and find out its part of a series, we probably have the rest of the books at the library. Come and check them out!

The most recent purchases of hard cover/large print books are:
House of Spies by Daniel Silva – Gabriel Allon and his team are determined to hunt down the world’s most dangerous terrorist known as Saladin.

Before and Again by Barbara Delinsky – A teenage hacker commits one crime too many and draws the FBI and the press to the small town of Devon, Vermont. Devon harbors people fleeing their past but there’s no hiding now.

Cottage by the Sea by Debbie Macomber – Annie has been through the worst. She finds that the surest way to fix what’s damaged within is to rise above the pain and find a way to heal.

Little Big Love by Katy Regan – 10 year old Zac is determined to find his dad and deliver his mom the happy ever after she deserves. Told through the eyes of Zac, his mom and his grandfather, the story is about family, love, and the secrets that can define who we are.

Measure of Darkness by Jonathan Kellerman – Clay Edison series #2 - A party, an argument with the neighbors and a crowd in the street. 2 guns firing. When the dust settles, there’s an extra victim. She’s been strangled, not shot, with no ID. Coroner’s Deputy Clay Edison is determined to give her a name and bring her justice.

Crime Scene by Jonathan Kellerman (HC/RP) -  Clay Edison series #1 – Clay Edison, former star athlete turned deputy coroner, must answer the question “natural causes or foul play” each time he examines a body. This case seems open and shut but the victim’s daughter claims murder. The twisting trail will lead him to the darkest corners of the human soul.

Night Moves by Jonathan Kellerman – Alex Delaware series – Psychologist Alex Delaware and Detective Milo Sturgis investigate a murder. A family returns home from a Sunday dinner to find an unidentifiable corpse in their den with no idea who he is or why he’s there.

The Rising Sea by Clive Cussler – Waters are rising everywhere. The NUMA scientific team finds an unimaginable solution at the bottom of the East China Sea. They must head off the coming catastrophe.

The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen – This is one scary love triangle where you won’t know who to trust. It will keep you guessing until the ending smacks you between the eyes.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher – Clay finds a package on his porch. It’s from Hannah, his crush, who killed herself 2 weeks earlier. In the package are several cassette tapes. Hannah’s voice on them tells him there are 13 reasons why she did it. He listens and learns her pain.

Things You Won’t Say by Sarah Pekkanen – Mike is a policeman on leave because his partner was killed in front of him. He goes back to work and shortly after, shoots and kills a boy who Mike says had a gun, only no gun was found.

Normal by Graeme Cameron – A serial killer with a conscience wants to quit kidnapping and killing but the police are on to him and he still has a victim hidden under his garage.

The King’s Deception by Steve Berry – Cotton Malone series – Cotton Malone and his 16 year old son are headed to Europe. As a favor, he agrees to escort a teenage fugitive back to England. He’s greeted in London at gunpoint and the son and the fugitive both disappear.

Shelter in Place by Nora Roberts –There’s a mass shooting at a theater and mall. The 3 shooters are killed so why are survivors of the massacre being killed, one by one?

Tahoe Payback and Tahoe Dark by Todd Borg – Several of you have started this Tahoe series so here are a couple to add to your list.

We have also added several inspirational books and Amish books to our inventory. Come on in. Maybe there’s one for you. Remember, the newest books in the library are shelved in special areas to make them easier for you to find. They stay there for three months, and then they’re filed under the author’s name.

Stop in. Library hours are Thursday from 6:30 to 8:00 PM and Friday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Also, look at our website – www.finleypl.org.
