May, 2018

We are having a book sale on Thursday, June 7 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. There will be free children’s books, hardcover books for 50 cents each and paperback books 5 for $1.00. We have a good selection for all ages.

FYI – I know there are several ladies from the area who take advantage of the Town Hall speakers in Fargo. You will be meeting Christina Baker Kline in September. Our library has several books she has written so if you’d like to read what she writes, stop in. We have:

 The Orphan Train, a story of friendship and second chances;

A Piece of the World
,  a young girl is tied to her home by health and circumstance and seems destined for a small life but the artist Andrew Wyeth finds an inspiration in her;

Sweet Water,  Cassie inherits land and a house from her grandfather. Her mother was born and died in the house when Cassie was 3 years old. She starts looking into her mother’s life and death.

Pam Walcker has donated her collection of Brian Freeman books and most are hard cover/large print. He writes about Detective Jonathan Stride and the books are set in the Duluth, Minnesota area. One reviewer says the books contain unbearable suspense with tantalizing questions. Thanks, Pam.

Someone donated a box full of LaVyrle Spencer books. She is an author who has a faithful following so come in and check them out. Thank you to the anonymous donor.

We’ve gotten several books in the last month but I’ll highlight the hard cover/large print books:

Down a Dark Road by Linda Castillo – #8 in the Kate Burkholder series.  A “fallen” Amish man was convicted of murdering his wife and sentenced to life in prison. He has escaped and is headed home where his children are. He kidnaps Kate and releases her unharmed, asking her to prove his innocence.

The Girlfriend by Michelle Frances – A story of a rich mother, her medical student son and his girlfriend from the wrong side of the tracks who wants it all.

A Hiss before Dying by Rita Mae Brown and her feline co-author Sneaky Pie Brown – This book is #26 in the long-running Mrs. Murphy series.

The Fallen
by David Baldacci – The Amos Decker Memory Man series #4 – Amos and his partner Alex Jamison are visiting her sister when Decker stumbles on a horrific double murder scene.  There has been a series of deaths in the small town in a short time. Decker wonders if they are due to the rampant opioid addiction and crumbling economy.

Twisted Prey
by John Sanford – Lucas Davenport series #28 – Lucas confronts an old adversary, a rich psychopath who’s now a powerful US Senator.

The Recipe Box
by Viola Shipman – A tale about a lost young woman and the family recipe box that changes her life.

I’ve Got My Eyes on You by Mary Higgens Clark – 18 year old Kerry is found dead at the bottom of the family pool.  Her boyfriend is the first suspect along with a neighbor. Kerry’s older sister is determined to find out the truth but the more she digs, the more danger she’s in.

Plain Confession by Emma Miller – An Amish mystery.

Somewhere to Belong by Judith Miller – A Daughters of Amana series #1. An inspirational Amish story.

A Winter Lodge by Susan Wiggs – One of the several books in her Lakeshore Chronicles series.

A Treasure Concealed by Tracie Peterson – an inspirational book.

Remember the book sale on Thursday, June 7 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. The library will not be open that night after the book sale.

Check out our website finleypl.org to look for any books you’re interested in. Don’t buy that book at the bookstore because we might have it and you can check it out! We have 8 of the top ten best sellers right now!

Library hours are Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:00 PM and Fridays from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Again, we will not be open the Thursday night after the book sale.
